Elenation

A global sports education platform for kids.

Elanation is a sports app created specifically for children between the ages of 6 and 12. With this app, kids can learn new sports skills, connect with friends who share similar interests, and share their sports achievements with loved ones. Additionally, the app allows children to track their progress using a smartwatch, providing them with a fun and interactive way to stay motivated and engaged in physical activity.

Problem statement

Children today are facing a growing health crisis due to their increasingly sedentary lifestyles. With the advent of technology and a decrease in outdoor activities, children are spending more time indoors and engaging in less physical activity. This lack of exercise has led to an increase in childhood obesity, which can have serious long-term health consequences.

To address this problem, there is a need for an engaging sports app for kids that encourages them to participate in physical activities and promotes a healthy lifestyle. However, current sports apps in the market are often geared towards adults and do not provide a user-friendly interface that is suitable for children. Therefore, there is a pressing need for a sports app that is specifically designed for children, with content that is tailored to their age group and interests.

Such an app can help children develop a love for sports and inspire them to lead an active and healthy lifestyle.

Product goals

Encouraging Physical Activity

One of the primary goals of a sports app for kids should be to encourage physical activity. The app could feature a variety of sports-related activities and challenges that motivate kids to get up and move.

Promoting Healthy Habits

In addition to promoting physical activity, the app would also promote healthy habits. Including tips and advice on how to maintain a healthy lifestyle. By encouraging healthy habits, the app can help kids feel and perform their best when playing sports.

Building a Community

The app would aim to build a community around sports and physical activity. It will include features like social sharing, where kids can share their accomplishments and progress with friends and family. The app would also feature forums or chat rooms where kids can connect with other young athletes, share tips and advice, and build relationships with others who share their love of sports. By creating a sense of community, the app can help kids stay motivated and engaged in their athletic pursuits.

Process

App map and Information architecture

Before diving into the design process, it is crucial to clearly define the scope and goals of the project by determining what information and features will be included in the app, as well as identifying the app's primary goals. Mapping out a north star vision for the product is also essential before starting this process, as it helps to provide a clear direction for the project. By establishing these parameters, the team can then proceed with prototyping and testing to ensure that the information architecture aligns with the app's intended purpose and meets the needs of its users.

User flows

After reaching a consensus on which features to prioritise, the team proceeded to develop user stories and corresponding user flows for each of them. This systematic approach allowed us to better understand the user experience and ensure that all aspects of the app were cohesive and intuitive. By breaking down the user journey into smaller, more manageable steps, we were able to identify potential pain points and optimise the design to enhance usability.

Design approach

In order to move towards the north star, our design team adopted an incremental approach, releasing small features with each sprint. This strategy allowed us to make continuous progress and maintain momentum.

By breaking down larger design goals into manageable chunks, we ensured that each sprint delivered tangible improvements to the overall user experience. This iterative process not only allowed us to quickly gather user feedback but also facilitated regular course corrections and adjustments based on user needs and preferences.
